LaVerna A. Murphy, 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Reinbeck, Iowa, died Thursday, July 28, 2005 at Silver Pines Nursing Home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M., Monday, August 1, 2005, at the French-Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck, Iowa, with Pastor Joel Love officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.

LaVerna was born May 12, 1917, in Reinbeck, Iowa, the daughter of Theordore Jr. and Marie (Theisen) Brandt. She graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1934. On September 25, 1936 she was united in marriage to Lloyd G. Murphy in Pattonsburg, Missouri. The couple lived in the Reinbeck and Hudson communities. LaVerne worked at the telephone office in Reinbeck and Hudson and also in the Hudson grocery store. She later worked for the American Soy Bean Association and then retired from Taylor and Eisenhower in Hudson.

She is survived by her daughter Mary Jo and her husband Wayne Gauger of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her grandson Michael and his wife Cathy Gauger of Center Point, Iowa; two granddaughters, Kelly and her husband Victor Jacobs of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Amy Olds of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren, Alyssa Gauger, Taymara Olds, Kayleaigh Gauger, Mason and Nolan Jacobs, and Erin and Lucas Gauger; and her brother Robert and his wife Donna Brandt of Reinbeck, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers Allan, Lester, and Donald Brandt; and two sisters, Florence Davis and Irma Johnsen.
