Mrs. J. S. Kingsbury, Early Grundy Resident, Dead

Funeral services for Mrs. J. S. Kings. who died early last Thursday morning at her home in Reinbeck, were held at Reinbeck Saturday afternoon. She had been sick for two months from heart trouble. Mrs. Kingsbury operated Reinbeck's first hotel.

Mrs. Kingsbury came to Reineck in 1880 and for a number of years operated a hotel in the building which burned down last year while occupied by Holck's grocery. For fifty years she had made her home in Reinbeck, the span of her residence there being almost the span of the town's existence.

Jennie S. Smith was born near Cincinnati, Ohio, January 4, 1852, and was thus in her seventy-ninth year at death. She came to Muscatine county, Iowa, at an early age and there she was married March 23, 1871, to Alonzo Kingsbury. She was the mother of three children, the oldest son, Harry, dying in 1910. Surviving her are a daughter, Mrs. May Robinson, and a son, Paul E. Kingsbury. There are also seven grandchildren and one great-grandson.

The family moved from Muscatine county to Shelby county and farmed a year or two and then moved to a farm in Grant township in 1879. The following year they came to Reinbeck and this has been her home since.
