James Bowers Dies At Conrad Last Thursday

James Bowers died at his home in Conrad last Thursday following an illness of more than a year from heart failure. He came to Grundy county 33 years ago and for many years lived on the Rasmus farm in Clay township. A number of years ago he moved to South Dakota where he remained for three years. After his return he made his home in Conrad until the time of his death. He would have been 81 years old on his next birthday.

Mr. Bowers was born in Woodstock, West Virginia and came west in 1883. He was united in marriage to Miss Julia Baker, June 1, 1871. To this union were born nine children, seven of whom survive with the wife and mother. They are Mrs. M. E. Ralston, Charles, Cornelius, of Conrad; Mrs. G. W. Hurdle, of Marshalltown; Mrs. J. H. Morgan of Pasadena, Calif., and Mrs. H. H. Richtmeier of Iowa Falls. One daughter, Susie, died at the age of 14 years and Will Bowers died in August, 1926. One brother, Will Bowers, also survives him.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the house and at 3 o'clock from the m.E. church, Rev. J. L. Masemore of the Alice church officiating, assisted by Rev. C. K. Hudson of the Conrad M.E. church. Burial was made in the Conrad cemetery.
