Ubbe Reiter Dies Suddenly
Ubbe Reiter died very suddenly at his home two miles east of here shortly before noon last Thursday. Heart failure was the cause. He was hauling manure to the field. He had completed his load in the yard at home when he was taken with a heart attack and collapsed at once. His wife saw him fall and hurried to his side. Fritz Frerichs, who was driving by the place at the time, noticed that there was something wrong and stopped. He helped to carry the fallen man to the house. He was still alive when taken to the house but breathed his last a few minutes later.
Funeral services were held at the home at one o'clock Monday afternoon and later at the assembly hall at Stout. Rev. Swyter from Steamboat Rock and Oliver Smith from Waterloo had charge of the services. It was one of the largest attended funerals that have been held in this locality for several years. Not all who attended were able to get into the assembly hall. Burial was made in the cemetery at Buck Grove.
Ubbe Reiter was 56 years old. He was born in Grundy and with the exception of a few years that he lived in Lyon county, he spent all of his life in this locality. For many years the family resided on a farm south of here and later for a few years they lived in town. Two years ago they moved on the 20-acre farm two miles east of Stout. Mr. Reiter and Altje Eiklenborg were married here and began housekeeping on a farm in south Beaver. There were eight children, seven of whom are living. Six of them are girls and one is a boy.
The sympathy of the entire community is with the mother and children in their sudden and very heavy bereavement.
