Two Deaths In One Family

Grandma Shear Follows Closely the Death of Daughter-in-Law

The Glenn Shear home has been doubly afflicted the past week, Mrs. Shear having passed away on Thursday and Grandma Shear was called to her eternal rest Monday morning.

Until just prior to her death Grandma Shear had been staying for a short time at the Ben Smith home, but owing to the illness of Mrs. Smith, Grandma Shear was removed to the John Cox home where she passed away early Monday morning.

During all the months that Mrs. Glenn Shear has been in poor health and also Grandma Shear no husband or son could have been more faithful and diligent in administering to the needs of the afflicted than was Glenn, and he did much to cheer up the declining weeks and days to his loved ones.

Mrs. Martha Shear

Mrs. Martha Shear was born Feb. 6, 1837, and departed this life May 13, 1929, aged 92 years, 3 months and 7 days.

She was the mother of eight children, four girls and four boys. Her husband and seven children preceded her in death. The only remaining member of her family is her youngest son, Mr. Glenn Shear.

For forty-four years she lived at Spirit Lake, Iowa, before coming to Grundy Center three years ago. During her residence in Spirit Lake she united with the Baptist church there. She was very appreciative to anyone who read to her and prayed with her. A short funeral service was held from the home of her son, Mr. Glen Shear, on May 14th at 4 p.m., conducted by Pastor L. P. Cassel. Later the body was shipped to Spirit Lake, where after another funeral service interment took place.
