Fairfield Pioneer Died Last Friday
George Boysen Passed Away Following a Week's Illness
George J. Boysen, one of the early residents of Grundy county, died at the home of his son, Edward, in Fairfield township last Friday. He had been in good health up to a week before his death when he was stricken with influenza. Mr. Boysen had been a continuous resident of Grundy county during the past fifty-four years.
Funeral services were held at the Lutheran church at Fredsville Monday afternoon. They were conducted by the local pastor, Rev. Stockholm. The Fredsville male quartet sang at the service. The pall bearers were C. H. Syndergaard, Will Krumlinde, Otto Christiensen, Peter Henningsen, Hans Johnson and Carl Anderson. The remains were laid in the Fredsville cemetery beside the wife, who died 25 years ago.
George J. Boysen was born in Fjelstrup, Slesvig, Denmark, May 31, 1850. He came to Clinton with his parents July 1, 1869, and to this county six years later.
He was married to Ane Stine Nielsen Mar. 10, 1876. To this union six children were born: George, who died two years ago, Niels, Herbert, Edward, Mrs. N. C. Syndergaard and Mrs. Ole Krog, all living in the Fredsville vicinity. There are twenty grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Boysen was the youngest of six children. The only one who is living is Adam Boysen, who resides at Cedar Falls.
In the passing of Mr. Boysen a long and useful life came to a peaceful close. All his children were with him at the time of his death. He was a good father and a kind neighbor, always willing to give a helping hand in time of need. He will be missed in the home where he has lived most of his life and by a host of friends. He was a charter member of the Danish Lutheran church.
A number of relatives from a distance were present at the funeral.
