Former Grundy Lady Buried Here
The body of Mrs. Lee Simpson, possibly better known here as formerly Mrs. A. J. McGovern, formerly the wife of a well-known Traer druggist, was brought here Monday from Cedar Rapids and buried in the Grundy Center cemetery beside her father, John Gaffey, who died several years ago.
Mrs. Simpson, whose maiden name was Gaffey, was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Gaffey, at one time farmers living southwest of this city. She grew to young womanhood here and attended the Grundy Center schools. Later she married A. J. McGovern, and for a number of years Traer was their home, her husband being engaged in the drug business there.
The couple were divorced while living in Traer and later Mrs. McGovern was married to Lee Simpson, one time cashier of a Traer bank. Of late years Waterloo has been their home, and Mr. Simpson died there early last spring.
Several weeks previous to her death Mrs. Simpson had been taken to a Chicago sanatorium, and it was there that she passed away Saturday, Sept. 8th, 1928. She was the mother of two children: a boy died when quite young and the daughter, Winona, is living with her father at Kansas City.
Mrs. Simpson's mother, who lives with a son at Riceville, Iowa, and her daughter, Winona, were among the relatives from a distance who attended the burial here Monday afternoon.
