Henry Dittmer was born in Boresbeck, Probistic, Germany, Aug. 29, 1855. He received his education in that land and was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith.

At the age of 17 he came to America, locating at Davenport, Iowa. Oct. 8th, 1880, he was united in marriage to Miss Emelia Gottsch, of Davenport. They took up farming and resided in that vicinity until the spring of 1892, when they moved to Grundy county, Iowa, where they resided at the time of Mr. Dittmer's death March 16th, 1928, aged 72 years, 7 months and 17 days.

Of the seven children born to bless this union, four have gone on before, three in infancy and Mrs. Alma Weatherly on May 19, 1925. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and the following children: Edward, of Motley, Minn.; Harry, near Grundy Center, Iowa; Emma, of Aplington, Iowa; one sister, Mrs. Anna Kuhl, of Manilla, Iowa, and ten grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Alice church on Sunday, March 18th, Rev. Masemore officiating, and burial was in the Alice cemetery. The pallbearers were members of the Woodmen lodge of Grundy Center, of which Mr. Dittmer was a member.
