William B. Lewis, a well known farmer of Grundy County, passed away at his home Monday morning at 7 o'clock at the age of 73 years, 2 months and 16 days. His death was due to heart trouble, from which he had been suffering for some time.

He was the son of George and Mary Lewis. He was born January 3, 1855, in Owen county, Indiana. His father died when Mr. Lewis was only three years old.

After his father's death, Mr. Lewis came with his mother and brothers, Jasper and Almarion, from Indiana to Liscomb, Iowa, and settled in the Bethel neighborhood.

His mother died a short time later and the children were taken in the homes of relatives in the community. Mr. Lewis was taken into the home of T. R. Weatherly, with whom he made his home until he grew to manhood.

He married Miss Lydia Meyers Oct. 28, 1885, and moved on a farm east of Liscomb where they lived until seventeen years ago, when they sold their farm and purchased another near Whitten.

Besides his wife, he is survived by six children: Mrs. Harry Small, of Liscomb; Alvin Lewis at home; Mrs. Herman Warren, Conrad; Melvin Lewis, Grundy Center; Sammy Lewis, of Whitten, and Mrs. Harry Bromley of Eldora; also by twelve grandchildren. He is also survived by the following foster brothers and sisters: Mrs. Sarah Bueghley of Liscomb; Mrs. Elmer Boyd, of Liscomb; John Weatherly, of Doon, Iowa; David Weatherly, of Bangor, Iowa; George Weatherly, of Nevis, Minn.

Mrs. Lewis' brother, Jasper, of Chicago, died at the Lewis home three weeks ago while visiting there.

Mr. Lewis has been a member of the Church of the Brethren at Ivester for many years. He renewed his covenant with his Master two years ago and has enjoyed his church and Savior so much during these declining years. He availed himself of the spiritual and physical blessing of the anointing service a few months ago, which added to his courage and poise for this last experience.
