Rev. Geo. E. Morphy Dies at Cascade

Rev. George Edmond Morphy passed away at his home in Cascade, Iowa, Dec. 25, 1927, at 4:45 p.m. He had been failing in health for several months and suffered intensely from angina pectoris.

He was born in St. Mary's, Ontario, Canada, March 9, 1863. He received his education at McMaster University, Toronto, and the University of Chicago.

His pastorates have been in Grundy Center, Perry, Grinnell, Denison and Council Bluffs, Iowa; Brookings, S.D., Salida and Montrose, Colo., and at Cascade, Iowa, of which church he was pastor at the time of his death.

He was united in marriage Nov. 14, 1894, to Anna Burns, who survives him to mourn her great loss; also one sister, Mrs. Mary Schofield, who resides in St. Mary's and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Morphy was a man of great sincerity and moral and spiritual strength, and was at the same time tolerant of the opinions of others. Patience and devotion and a desire to serve were his finest traits. He was of a studious nature and desired truth and light in religious matters above all else.

He was converted to Christ at an early age and remained devoted and faithful in his ministry throughout his useful life.

The remains were brought here where funeral services were held from the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Crane officiating, assisted by Rev. Chambers. Interment was in the cemetery west of town.
