Fairfield Township Man Dies at Clear Lake

Martin J. Henningsen was born May 4, 1883, in Fairfield township, Grundy county, where he received his education in the country school and later completed a business course at Cedar Falls, after which he returned to the farm where he was his father's secretary and accountant on his pure bred stock farm.

A few years later he entered into the chicken hatchery business. He also held the offices of township clerk and secretary of the Dike Creamery for several years. Later he became bank cashier and postmaster at Fox Lake. From there he was called back to Dike when his brother, Jeppe, died, to close up the stock farm.

The same year he took a trip to Florida where he spent the winter returning the next spring and then made his home with his brother, Herman Henningsen, near New Hartford.

Later he made a trip through the west taking in California, Oregon, and Washington and back by the way of Yellowstone Park. The last two years he has been in Clear Lake in partnership with his brother, Lauritz Henningsen, conducting a grocery store and boat house.

He passed away very suddenly at that place Sunday morning, Aug. 28th at the age of 44 years, 3 months and 24 days. All through his life he has been very ambitious and always willing to help his friends.

He leaves to mourn his loss his father, L. L. Henningsen; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Hansen, of Dike and Mrs. Lornea Madsen, of Fox Lake; two brothers, Herman, of New Hartford and Lauritz, of Clear Lake.

Funeral services were held at the L. L. Henningsen home Wednesday conducted by Rev. Stockholm and the remains laid to rest in the family lot at Fredsville.
