Death of R. E. St. Clair
Ralph E. St. Clair, aged 48, died at St. Thomas hospital at Marshalltown last Saturday evening following an emergency operation for appendicitis.
Mr. St. Clair lived for a number of years in Vienna township, Marshall county, and about ten years ago he moved onto the James Lister farm, near Conrad. About three years ago he moved to Jefferson, Iowa, where he has since lived and where he was salesman for the Watkins Remedy Co.
He went to Marshalltown last week to attend a meeting of Watkins salesmen and was taken ill while there.
Mr. St. Clair was married to Miss Myrtle Middleton in February, 1901, who, with four children, is left to mourn the death of a kind and loving husband and father.
The funeral services were held from the M.E. church at Conrad, Tuesday afternoon, the pastor of the Christian church at Jefferson which the family attended preaching the sermon, assisted by Rev. Clements, of Conrad. Interment was in the Conrad cemetery.
The members of the Masonic lodge of which Mr. St. Clair was a member attended the services in a body and conducted the services at the grave.
All near relatives except one sister living in Idaho were present at the funeral.
Those present from a distance were: Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, Mrs. Edith Lemon, West Liberty; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Middleton, Kansas City; Mrs. Fay Bell, Greencastle, Mo.; Mrs. Harvey Cross, Hollandale, Minn. Besides there were about thirty friends present from Jefferson.
Mrs. Julia St. Clair, mother of the deceased, and two brothers, Bart and Willard, live in and near Conrad.
