Obituary Mrs. Dora DeVries

Dora DeVries, nee Hook, was born on July 19, 1884, in Colfax township, Grundy Co., Iowa, and passed out of this life on Feb. 22, 1951, in the evening at 6:30 at the Iowa Falls hospital. The cause of her death was a stroke which she suffered on Feb. 14 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ernest Pieper, near Iowa Falls.

She was married to Ben H. DeVries on April 26, 1905. This happy union was blessed with four children: Mrs. Alice Pieper of Iowa Falls, Mrs. Lucille Kuper of Shell Rock, Mrs. Hazel Hobbs of Badger, Ia., and Mrs. Beulah Sietsema of Wellsburg.

Besides her life companion and the above named four daughters, there remain to mourn her departure 8 grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Barney Hook of Holland; Ernest, Gladbrook; Henry Hook, Wellsburg; Rudolf Hook, Minneapolis; Mrs. Grace Arends, Cedar Falls; Rev. Cornelius Hook, Ft. Snelling, Minn.; Mrs. Anna Ackerman, LaPorte City; Herman Hook, Parkersburg; besides many relatives and friends.

Mrs. DeVries was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna Hook.

Funeral services for Mrs. Dora DeVries were held Monday, Feb. 26, at 12:30 from the home and at 1 o'clock at the Pleasant Valley Evangelical United Brethren church. Rev. A. K. Henning officiated and based his sermon on the text, "If a man die, shall he live again?"

The beautiful hymns, "Does Jesus Care?" and "Near to the Heart of God" were sung by Miss Violet Schneckloth. She was accompanied by Phyllis Bausman. Pallbearers were the deceased's nephews: Henry B. Hook, Franklin Hook, John Hook, Harry Hook, Cornelius Hook and Kenneth Hook.

The floral tributes were arranged by Mrs. S. D. Aukes and Mrs. John Frey.

Relatives and friends from a distance in attendance were Mr. and Mrs. Dick Behrends, Mrs. Dena Becker and Miss Jennie Behrends of George, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Poppen, Mrs. Martha Haggermeyer, Mrs. Elko Vietor, Mrs. Schoffleman, from Lennox, So. Dak.; Rev. C. H. Hook and son Cornelius and Mrs. Ray McCloughan from Minneapolis;

Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Heimness and Harry Hook from Austin, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Henry B. Hook from Mason City; Mrs. Clyde Burt of Clarion and Mrs. Wm. Cone, Ft. Dodge; Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Hovey, Charlotte Johanson, Charlene Larson, Mr. and Mrs. O. N. Siverson, Mrs. Weir Frette, Ray Wogen, Ray Nation and Wayne Cleverly, all of Badger, Ia., and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Feldick of Buffalo Center.
