Mrs. Dena Toomsen Dies At Ackley

Mrs. Dena Toomsen died at her home at Ackley last Wednesday afternoon from complications of old age. She was 89. Mrs. Toomsen, who had been living alone at her home in Ackley since the death of her husband, was in good health and was attending to her household duties daily until she suffered an attack of flu from which she was unable to recover.

Funeral services were at the Evangelical Reformed church in Ackley Saturday afternoon. Burial was in the Westfriesland cemetery in German township.

Resided in German Township Many Years
Mrs. Toomsen was born in Germany. Her maiden name was Dena Schmidt. She came to America with her parents when she was 16. The family located on a farm in German township where a few years later she was married to Dick Toomsen. The couple lived on a German township farm until the husband died in March, 1925. Shortly thereafter Mrs. Toomsen left the farm and moved to Ackley where she remained until her death.

Surviving are one son and three daughters. The son Ray Toomsen lives in Wellsburg. The daughters are Mrs. Albert Kruse, Wellsburg; Mrs. Matt Groen and Mrs. Ben Siedshlag, Ackley. There are five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
