Sam Schmidt Obituary

Simon Schmidt, son of the late F. C. Schmidt, was born March 17, 1899 in Grundy County, Iowa and passed away Feb. 7, 1951 at the age of 51 years, 10 months and 20 days.

Death followed a lingering heart ailment from which he had suffered for the past three years. He was suddenly stricken Wednesday afternoon and was taken to St. Mary's hospital, Pierre, when he passed away a few minutes later. He was united in marriage to Gladys Farries on Dec. 28, 1935. To this union was born a son who died in infancy.

Preceding him in death were his father, Fred C. Schmidt, who died Nov. 25, 1945, his mother, Grace Sievers Schmidt, who passed away May 15, 1918, and a sister, Susie, who died at an early age.

Surviving are his wife Gladys, his stepmother, Mrs. Minnie Schmidt, two brothers, Fred F. of Holland, and George A. of Pierre, two step-brothers, Alex Smith of Pierre, and George Smith of Glenham, S.D., two step-sisters, Mrs. Richard Jarrard, Casper, Wyo., and Mrs. Velma Higgins of Pierre, and a half-sister, (Dorothy) Mrs. John Wilcox of Pierre.

He was affiliated with the Colfax Presbyterian church of Holland. His loss will be keenly felt by all who knew him as a man of good honor character and his willingness to help others will long be remembered.

Active pallbearers were William Luecke, Floyd Tunnell, Raymond Hinsey and Ted, Heyo and Henry Krull. Interment was made in the Blunt cemetery. Relatives from a distance attending the funeral were five Ross brothers from Holland, Mrs. Adolph Kozel, Rockford, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Farries of Hitchcock, S.D.
