Harry Schafer Dies At Hospital

Herman (Harry) Schafer died at the University hospital at Iowa City at 1:15 Saturday morning. He had been in failing health the past two years. He was afflicted with a tumor at the base of the brain. He was at the hospital twice and the last time was taken there on January 2nd. He had an operation Thursday and never regained consciousness. Had he lived until March 1st he would have been 63 years old.

The body was brought to the Coffman-Ferree funeral home in Grundy Center. Funeral services were held from the Ferree chapel Monday afternoon. The service was conducted by Rev. Gerben VanPutten, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery. The Odd Fellows had charge of the service at the grave.

Mr. Schafer was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Christ Schafer. He was born at Hampton, March 1, 1888. The family moved to Grundy county when he was a small boy and he spent the remainder of his years here. On June 22, 1911 he and Harriett Watkins were married. They made their home continually in Grundy Center where Harry followed the carpenter trade as long as his health permitted.

Surviving are the wife, two sons, Marvin of Cedar Falls and Gerald, Grundy Center. There are four grandchildren and two brothers, Arend of Grundy Center and Henry from Ames.
