Fairfield Twp. Farmer Dies in Cedar Falls
Vanalden Chase who during the greater share of his active life was engaged in farming in Fairfield township died in a convalescent home in Cedar Falls on Monday. He was 79 years old.
Funeral services will be held at the Fredsville church Friday afternoon. Burial will be in the cemetery at Dike.
The deceased was the son of Henry O. and Angelina Azeltine Chase, was born on a farm in Fairfield township, Grundy county, June 19, 1871. He married Anna Larsen in the spring of 1902. They engaged in farming in Grundy county until about seven years ago, when they moved to New Hartford for two years before coming to Cedar Falls in 1945.
They moved into a house they had purchased at 1120 West First street (which is also highway 20) and had lived there but a short time when Mrs. Chase was fatally injured when struck by an automobile while crossing the street in front of her home.
The couple had a son and daughter, both of whom preceded their parents in death.
Chase survived by one sister, Mrs. Roscoe Gage, 117 Greeley street, the last survivor of three sisters and four brothers in the Chase family.
Chase was a member of the Fredsville Lutheran church.
