Henry C. Janssen Dies Last Friday

Henry C. Janssen died Friday at his home in German township following a long illness. While he had been bedfast continually, his condition was not regarded as critical until about midnight on Thursday night. From that time his condition became more serious until the end came at 2:30 in the afternoon.

Was 8 Months in Hospital
He was taken sick with what was believed to be a brain tumor a year ago last August. He was treated at hospitals and was operated upon several times. He spent eight months in the Deaconess hospital at Marshalltown and at the University hospital at Iowa City. Everything medical skill had to offer was given him, but it was only temporary relief. He suffered intensely during his long period of illness.

Funeral services were held at St. Peters Evangelical church in German township Tuesday afternoon. The service was conducted by Rev. Hesse, former pastor of this church. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Born in German Township
Henry Janssen was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Christ Janssen. He was born in German township August 18th, 1894, and he spent practically all of his life on a farm there. On February 12th, 1919, he and Hermina Boelman were married. They started housekeeping on a German township farm.

Surviving are the wife and five children. The children are Christ, Aplington; Louis, Wellsburg; Mrs. Sam Boekhoff, Wellsburg; Harley and Dorothy are at home. One son, George, who was killed accidentally, preceded him in death in 1941.

Other surviving relatives are six grandchildren, two brothers and four sisters. The brothers are Claus and Fred from Aplington, Mrs. John TerHark, Wellsburg; Mrs. Henry Stubbe and Mrs. Ubbe Toomsen, Ackley, and Anna Janssen, Aplington.
