Nan Walters Dies At Hospital
Nan Walters, who had resided in Pleasant Valley near Buck Grove all of his life, died at the University hospital at Iowa City at noon on Monday. He had been in failing health for several months. Cancer was the cause of his death. He was taken to the hospital by his nephew, Eilert Walters Jr., on November 9th. He was 73 years old on February 28 of this year.
Nan Walters was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harm Walters. He was born in Germany. The family came to this country about 70 years ago and located on a farm in Pleasant Valley township where they continued to live. There were five sons and three daughters in the family. Two sons and two daughters survive. They are, Harm of Buffalo Center and Eilert, of Wellsburg. The surviving daughters are Mrs. John Luchtenberg and Dora Walters, Pleasant Valley township.
Nan and his brother Dick never married. They were together all of their lives. Most of their life they resided on a small place south of Buck Grove. For many years the two brothers operated a threshing machine and everyone in the northwest part of the county knew them.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at the Engelkes funeral home in Parkersburg. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Reformed church cemetery west of Fern. Rev. Paul Schmidt will officiate at the service.
