Ed Kappelman Died Friday
Edward H. Kappelman, age 62, died Friday afternoon, May 19, at 1:30 at the Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo following an operation for ulcers. He was born March 23, 1888, at Lynn, Kansas, son of Henry and Meta Kappelman. He came to Iowa in 1913. He was a member of the 163rd Infantry and served 8 months overseas in World War I.
He was united in marriage to Miss Nita L. Roberts, Sept. 24, 1919. They made their home on farms in the Dike vicinity for 13 years, when they moved to Dike to operate a service station and also had a school bus route. At the age of 12 he was confirmed in the Lutheran faith, later joined the Dike Methodist church. He was a member of the Dike Legion and the town council.
Besides the wife he leaves on daughter, Mrs. Vernie Cox, two grandchildren, Donald and Joan Cox; six sisters, Mrs. Guy Riggs of Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. John Lohmeyer of Clay Center, Kansas; Mrs. Marie Hollingsworth of Enid, Okla.; Mrs. Rose Borgman of San Diego, Calif.; Mrs. Dick Laird of San Diego; Mrs. J. Davis of San Diego; two brothers, H. H. Kappelman of Greenleaf, Kan.; and Art Kappelman who is in a Veterans hospital in Oregon.
Military funeral services were held at the Dike Methodist church Monday afternoon at 1:30 with Rev. M. T. Baskerville of Dike assisted by Rev. James Bird of Cedar Falls. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery at Dike.
Relatives from a distance attending the funeral services for Edward Kappelman were Mr. and Mrs. Guy Riggs and Walter of Salina, Kansas; Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Lohmeyer of Clay Center, Kansas; Mrs. Nettie Roberts and Dana Roberts of Holman, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Dick Welda of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson and Mrs. Freestate of Chicago.
