Mrs. J. L. Byrnes Dead; Lived On Same Farm 72 Yrs.
Mrs. Emmaline Byrnes, who resided on the same farm in Washington township, Grundy county, 72 years, died at her home at 5:40 Friday evening. Her five children were at her bedside during her last hours. She was 88 years, 9 months and 17 days old at the time of her death. Regardless of her advanced age, she had been in good health continually until August 17th of last year when she suffered a stroke which completely disabled her and from which she was unable to recover.
Funeral services were held at the Coffman funeral home Sunday afternoon. Burial was by the side of the husband and a grandchild in the Grundy Center cemetery. Rev. Merton Green, pastor of the Grundy Methodist church, officiated at the services.

Mrs. Byrnes was born at Pecatonica, Ill. Her maiden name was Emmaline Lloyd. She spent her early life in the vicinity where she was born. She was married to John L. Byrnes at Ridott, Ill., on Sept. 7th, 1878. After their marriage the couple came to a farm in Washington township, Grundy county, which they purchased and which has since bee the family home.Had a Great-Great-Grandchild
Mrs. Byrnes lived long enough to become a great-great-grandmother. The fifth generation in the family was completed a year and a half ago when a daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Packingham at Cedar Rapids. The mother of the child was Mrs. Byrnes' great-granddaughter.Surviving are three sons and two daughters. They are: Mrs. Ella Mae Dunn of Grundy Center; Frank Lloyd of Petersburg, North Dakota; Wilbur Garrett of Dike; Mrs. Jennie Lillian Dorathy of Cedar Rapids, and Leslie Cyrus, who made his home continually with his mother and who supervised the operation of the family farm. There were fifteen grandchildren, two of whom have died, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
