Mrs. E. J. Gohner Dies at Hospital

Mrs. E. J. Gohner died at 11:30 Tuesday at the Allen Memorial hospital in Waterloo. She was taken to the hospital two weeks before where one of her legs was amputated below the knee. A second operation was found necessary and this was performed on Tuesday morning. She died from the shock of this operation without regaining consciousness. She was 64 years old. She had been afflicted with diabetes for several years. News of her death was received with deep regret by the many friends of the family in the vicinity of Melrose township where she spent the greater part of her life.

Mrs. Gohner was born in Grundy county and resided here all of her life. Her maiden name was Susan Luitjens, daughter of Henry Luitjens, who died within the last year. Her husband died Jan. 29th, 1948.

Surviving are the two sons, Eldon, who has been with his mother on their farm 6 miles south of Wellsburg, and Harry who resides in California. He arrived here Sunday and was with his mother at time of her death.

Other surviving relatives are three sisters: Mrs. Ray Sheller, Mrs. Dan Sheller and Mrs. Percy Sheller, all of whom live in Long Beach, California. There are two half sisters: Mrs. Al Smith, Long Beach and Mrs. Dan Klunder. There are two brothers, Willis Luitjens, Shell Rock, and Henry Luitjens, Grundy Center. Funeral services will be held Friday. There will be a short service at the funeral home in Eldora and at 2:00 o'clock at the Ivester church. Rev. W. J. Helsey, local pastor, will officiate at the service. Burial will be by the side of the husband in the Sheller cemetery.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John.
