Reinbeck's Oldest Citizen Dead
Reinbeck's oldest resident passed away Tuesday afternoon of last week when the weight of years became too great for Mrs. August Gauger and her strength, which had been failing perceptibly the last year, came to an end. Mrs. Gauger was in her ninety-seventh year and had been a continuous resident of Reinbeck since 1880. Her advanced age was her only ailment and for several weeks she had been slowly sinking. Having no immediate relatives, she was being cared for in her own home by Mrs. Herman Peterson.
Little is known of her early life. She was born in Germany July 12, 1830, and the family came to this section about 1875. For a time they lived on a farm near Morrison and in 1880 moved to Reinbeck where Mr. Gauger ran a shoe store for a number of years. He died in November, 1902, and there were no children. One adopted daughter also died a number of years ago.
