County Farm Inmate Dead

Elmer Beck, aged about 65 years, and an inmate of the county farm for a number of years, passed away Wednesday morning early.

He had been in poor health for some time and recently was slated to be taken to the hospital at Independence, but his condition would not permit of his removal.

Beck was an eccentric character and until recently was of a harmless disposition. He assumed that he was of considerable importance about the farm and termed himself the "hog man," meaning that his main duties were to care for the hogs.

He was also in the habit of covering his coat front with badges of various hues and was frequently seen at the county fairs where people not knowing him mistook him for some distinguished foreigner. The badges were of a cheap nature and had no direct importance except that imagined by the wearer.

His funeral will be held today at the county farm.
