Mrs. Thorndike Dies in Massachusetts

Mrs. G. W. Thorndike died at Hanover, Mass., yesterday after a short illness from pneumonia. The death message was received by relatives here yesterday afternoon.

Mrs. Thorndike's remains are being sent to Grundy Center and they are expected to arrive here Saturday noon. Interment will be made by the side of the husband in the Grundy cemetery.

For the past five years Mrs. Thorndike made her home with her sister, Mrs. Deane at Hanover, Massachusetts. Prior to that she was a long time resident of Grundy county. Her husband died in 1919. Mrs. Thorndike's relatives are her brother, Frank Mason, her sister-in-law, Mrs. E. A. Crouse, and her niece, Mrs. George Cox.

Obituary of Mrs. Thorndyke

Mrs. Alzade M. Thorndyke was born in Erie Co., New York, on Oct. 2, 1852, and passed away at the house of her sister, Mrs. S. M. Dean of Hanover, Mass., on Wednesday, April 7th, 1926, aged 73 years, 6 months and 5 days.

She removed with her parents, R. E. and S. M. Mason, to Kossuth county, Iowa, in 1859, then to Black hawk county in March, 1863. After residing there six years she with her parents moved to Grundy county where on Nov. 19, 1873, she was united in marriage to G. W. Thorndyke who preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1919. She united with the first Baptist church of Grundy Center, where she was a faithful worker and teacher in Sunday school for many years. Her life was one well spent, a good neighbor and always a friend in need.

She leaves to mourn one brother and two sisters, Frank Mason, of Grundy Center, and Mrs. S. M. Dean, of Hanover, Mass., and Mrs. Orval Bly, of Niagara Falls, New York.

Services were conducted by Rev. Alexander, pastor of the First Baptist church, assisted by Rev. Chambers, of the First Presbyterian church at the Frank Mason home in this city.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were J. W. Mason, West Burlington, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Mason, Luverne, Iowa; Miss Clara Hunt, Waterloo.
