Grace E. Marker
Grace E. Marker was born in Jefferson county, Ohio, Feb. 13, 1871, and died at Grundy Center, Iowa, Feb. 4, 1926, aged 54 years, 11 months and 21 days. She came to Iowa about 18 years ago and made her home with a brother several years, then spent two years in Eldora, Iowa, after which she came to the M. E. Lewis home and spent several years with them and Mr. Lewis' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Lewis. The last three months of her life were spent in the D. S. Kirkpatrick home where she received most splendid care during her sickness. She passed to her eternal home Feb. 4, 1926.
Grace, in spite of the affliction of being blind all her life, was very cheerful, always thinking of the comfort and welfare of others. She has always been a consistent Christian and united with the Church of the Brethren in 1912 and has been a true and earnest member, giving courage and inspiration to all who came in contact with her life.
A short but a very beautiful service was held in the home of Mr. Kirkpatrick Sunday afternoon at 1:30 led by the Rev. Winslow, assisted by a mixed quartet which rendered three beautiful and appropriate selections of music.
The funeral was held in the Ivester church at 2:30 led by the pastor and assisted by the male quartet of the church. Rev. Leatherman used the text Psa. 119:18; "Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law."
The church was well filled in spite of the bad roads.
Interment was made in the Sheller cemetery.
Those from a distance in attendance at the funeral were Dr. and Mrs. John I. Marker, of Davenport. Dr. Marker is a nephew of the deceased.
