Stephen G. Weiss, M.D, 72, formerly of Reinbeck

Stephen G. Weiss, M.D., died unexpectedly on January 30, 2011, at his condo in Orange City, Florida, at the age of seventy-two. He was born in Reinbeck, Iowa, April 16, 1938.

Memorial Services will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, February 5, 2011, at the French Hand Funeral Home in Reinbeck, Iowa, with Pastor Curt Schneider officiating. Burial will occur at a later date.

He graduated from the Reinbeck High School in 1956, the University of Iowa Medical School in 1964, and enlisted in the Navy. He became a Naval Flight Surgeon serving in the Philippines. Later, he completed a Urology residency at LSU, Charity Hospital, New Orleans and was board certified. He practiced in Muscatine, Iowa; Davenport, Iowa; and Moline, Illinois, until April 2010, when he retired to Florida.

He enjoyed spending time with his children going to the theme parks and deep sea fishing. He loved working outdoors and had a vineyard, tree and asparagus farm in west Davenport. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, Reinbeck, Iowa, your local Humane Society, or a charity of your choice.

He is survived by his wife Catherine, his daughters, Katy Wilkens (Brian) of Keller, Texas; Clarissa Weiss (Mark) of Salt Lake City, Utah; and his sons, Dr. Stephen G. Weiss, II, (Susan) of Debary, Florida, and Philip Dean Weiss of Davenport, Iowa. His grandchildren include Tessa Weiss (who adopted his dog), Harold and Louise Colloton (who entertained him during the summer); Erica and Casey Pauli; Ashley, Lizzie and Taylor Wilkens. His sisters, Ruth Ann Schmidt (Louis) of Osage, Iowa; Jean Weiss of Loveland, Colorado; sister-in-law, Tina Weiss of Crestview, Florida; his aunt, Audrey Schneider of Reinbeck, Iowa; many cousins, nephews, and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Weiss; a granddaughter, Tricia Pauli; and his parents.
