Joann M. Hamann, 77, of Reinbeck, Iowa, passed away Sunday, December 04, 2011, at Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Waterloo, Iowa while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M., Thursday, December 8, 2011, at the Union Congregational United Church of Christ in Reinbeck, Iowa, with Rev. Joel Love officiating. Burial will follow at Reinbeck Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Memorials may be directed to United Church of Christ or American Cancer Society.
Joann was born July 28, 1934, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Ann (Harms) Steil. She attended school in Nashua, graduating from the Nashua High School in 1953. After graduation she worked as a telephone operator in Cedar Falls. On May 16 1954, Joann was united in marriage to Marvin J. Hamann in Nashua, Iowa. After their marriage they moved to Reinbeck. Joann worked for Seiferts Clothing and J.C. Penney and Co retiring in 1993. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck where she belonged to the Happy Hour Club and the church circle. She was also a member of the Reinbeck Women's Club. With her seamstress skills she was able make may different gifts for her family and friends. Joann enjoyed golfing, dancing and traveling. She loved the outdoors working in her garden and taking care of her flowers. Her loving care for family members will always be remembered. Joann loved spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin of Reinbeck; sons- Rodney (Ruby) Hamann of Jacksonville, FL; Thomas (Irene) Hamann of Reinbeck; two grandchildren; Cody and Heather; one great grandchild, Haydon; two brothers, Don Steil of Louisiana, Alan Steil of Charles City; one sister, Carol Jensen of Charles City.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
