Elias Modlin was born in Grundy county, Iowa, July 27, 1859, and departed this life at his home Oct. 16, 1925, aged 66 years, 2 months and 19 days.

He was converted when about 16 years old, was baptized and united with the Church of God at Alice, of which he continued a faithful member till death.

He was united in marriage to Miss Hannah Brown December 11, 1878. To this union six children were born: Mrs. Hiram Lord, of Grundy Center; Mrs. Homer Card, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mrs. Simon Kinney, Whitten; Orval M. E., Grundy Center; Obie S., of Grundy Center, and Floyd S., of Beloit, Wis. He also leaves two brothers and one sister: Mrs. John Lord, of Clarion, Iowa, Mark of Humboldt, So. Dak., and Alfred of Eldora, and ten grandchildren, who with many friends and neighbors keenly feel their loss of one so kind and good.

He was a true companion, kind father, and obliging neighbor.

Mr. Modlin had been a christian for fifty years, faithful in attendance with the church of his choice when in reach and health would permit.

His suffering at time was great but with it all he bore it with patience, and greatly appreciated the care his companion, children, and friends gave him.

Funeral services were conducted at the Alice Church of God at 2 p.m. on Lord's Day, Oct. 18th. There was a large audience of sorrowing friends and neighbors present. The services were conducted by Rev. E. E. Heltibridle, for many years pastor of Alice church. The singing was in charge of Mrs. Nora Phillips, of Conrad.
