Reinbeck Loses Its Oldest Resident

H. D. Schwartzing, Reinbeck's oldest citizen, died on May 6th, as a result of an attack of pneumonia. Interment was made at Reinbeck. Mr. Schwartzing came to Reinbeck 49 years ago.

He was born in Altenburg, Germany, December 10, 1834. In 1866 he came to this country, settling first in Illinois. Here he was married in 1867 to Miss Sophie Winhusen and they moved to Iowa in 1876. Three daughters were born to this union, all living. They are Mrs. Carrie Ramsey and Miss Annie, of Reinbeck, and Miss Louise, of St. Joseph, Mo. His wife died in 1883 and for many years he remained on the farm, his daughter, Anna, making a home for him. Some years ago he moved to town and with his daughter made his home with the John Ramsey family. Besides these daughters he is mourned by five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
