Mrs. Katherina Bettenga
Katherina Buttel was born Feb. 4, 1843, near Emden, Ostfriesland, and died April 20, 1925, having reached the age of 82 years, 2 months and 16 days.
She was married to Peter Bettenga in 1863 and in 1869 they left Germany and came to America, settling near Freeport, Ill. Urged by the call of the west, they left Illinois and settled on a farm in Colfax township, Grundy county, Iowa, in 1870, which farm has been her home till her death. Her husband died in 1892, leaving her a widow the past 33 years.
She leaves to mourn six sons and two daughters. One son, Bert, died in 1911. Her living children are Heiko, of George, Iowa; Everett, of Northfield, Minn.; Mrs. Heike Evens, of Austin, Minn.; John, of this county, with whom she has made her home the past 23 years; Creno, of Marshalltown, Iowa; Samuel, of Fargo, N.D.; William, of Holland, Iowa; and Mrs. Nellie Brouwer, of Doran, Minn.
Always patient, industrious, and true to every trust, Mrs. Bettenga was a true and noble Christian and died in the belief of her Savior, the resurrection and a blessed hereafter.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the house at one o'clock and from the Lincoln Center church at 2 o'clock, Rev. Siemsen, of Pleasant Valley, officiating, assisted by Rev. M. Weeldreyer, of the Lincoln Center church. Interment was in the Lincoln Center cemetery.
