John Francis Staley, son of Joseph and Sirona Staley, was born February 1, 1847, in Marshall county, Indiana, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles H. Miller, Delta, Iowa, on Sunday afternoon, March 29, 1925, aged 78 years, 1 month and 28 days.

In the late 60s he came to Grundy county and settled near Beaman, Iowa, where he lived until 1883.

On November 20, 1879, he was married to Emma J. Campbell at Grundy Center, Iowa. To them were born three children, Mrs. Caroline Edith Miller of Delta, Iowa; Mrs. Ida Mae Sarchett, of Beaman, Iowa, and John F. Jr., who died at the age of 7 years.

In 1883 the family moved to Iroquis, S.D., where they lived for five years.

A prayer service was held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charles Miller, Delta, Iowa, Tuesday morning, March 31, after which the body was taken to Beaman, Iowa, where in the afternoon at 3 o'clock funeral services were held from the M.E. church, Rev. J. J. Snyder officiating, assisted by Rev. R. V. Pike, pastor of the M.E. church of Delta.

Mrs. R. L. Oglesby, Mrs. Fred Elliott, Ben Rowe and Harry Wilson sang. L. L. Evans, Ennis Elliott, I. R. Schnebly, Robert Watt, George Hitchcock and Fred Elliott acted as pallbearers. Miss Nedra Fitzgerald and Margaret Simms carried the flowers. Interment was made in the Oakland cemetery.
