Obituary of Mrs. L. H. Slifer

Ann Catherine Strickler, daughter of Jacob Strickler and Mary Royer Strickler, was born on March 10, 1848, in Carroll county, Ill., where she spent her girlhood days.

In November 1870, she was united in marriage to Lewis H. Slifer, also of Carroll county. In 1872 they moved to Grundy county, where they continued to reside and where their three sons, all of whom survive her, were born and reared to manhood. Her husband died in September, 1915.

She was 77 years old on March 10 and passed away two days later. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. J. G. Harrison, of Vermontville, Mich., who recently visited her, and by a brother, Harry Strickler, of Lanark, Ill. Another brother, Frederick Strickler, of Greene, Iowa, passed away the day before Mrs. Slifer's death.

Mrs. Slifer has lived in the south part of town since 1893, when the family moved from the farm in Melrose township. She was a member of the Brethren church at Ivester, but mostly attended the Baptist church in this city. The funeral was held at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon under the auspices of both churches jointly. She was a woman whose friendly disposition will make her sadly missed in the community.
