Alvin R. Meents, 90, of Grundy Center, passed away on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit while under Care Initiatives Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in Holland with Pastor Eric Duble officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will follow funeral services at the church cemetery.

Alvin was born on July 22, 1922 in Holland, Iowa, the son of Uffa & Bertha (Goldhorn) Meents. Alvin and his siblings grew up on the family farm and he and Paul continued living in the family home, working as farmers.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing baseball with his cousins, enjoyed trapping during the winters and had a love for music. What Alvin enjoyed most in life was farming. He worked proudly side by side with his brother on the family farm for many years. Alvin was a kind and compassionate man and was a wonderful caregiver. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Alvin is survived by his sister Clara Claassen of Parkersburg; sister-in-law Grace Meents of Grundy Center; 3 nephews John A. Meents, Rev. David (Diann) Claassen, Mark (Sheila) Claassen and 1 niece Rhonda (Edward) Parker.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers John & Paul Meents; sister Iva Dean Dieken; nephew Dennis Dieken; a brother in infancy.
