JOHN COX DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Came to Grundy County From Illinois 58 Years Ago

John F. Cox, who resided in Grundy county continually for a period of fifty-eight years, died at his home in Grundy Center Monday forenoon. Death followed a general breaking down in health and an illness which confined him to his bed for several weeks.

Mr. Cox was born in Freeport, Ill. He came to this county in 1872 and remained here up to the time of his death. All of his life in the county was spent on the farm until two years ago when he and his wife moved to town. He was married to Miss Rachel Place October 14, 1878. The couple started housekeeping on a Lincoln township farm and continued to reside there until they came to town.

The wife and five children survive. The children are Elmer, Jack, Jim, Vance and Pearl. His sister, Mrs. Mary Knudsen, from Cedar Falls, also survives.

Funeral services were held at the Catholic church in Grundy Center yesterday morning with Rev. Father Boyle officiating. Those attending the funeral services from a distance were Mrs. Steve Bonn and son Robert from Cedar Falls, Mrs. Mary Knudsen and son James from Cedar Falls, Mr. and Mrs. John Smith from Elma, Iowa, Jack Cox and family from Dike, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Cox from Elma, Iowa, Jim Cox and family from Eldora, Mr. and Mrs. Vance Cox and Mr. and Mrs. A.N. Stackhouse from Des Moines.

The pallbearers were P. H. Fearer, Emery Davis, E. W. Hasbrouck, Guy Bailey, A. Hulne and George Lynch.
