Mary Lu Brown, 85, of Ottumwa died January 1, 2014, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. Funeral services were January 8 at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa with Bill Payne officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery, east of Wellsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to O.B. Nelson Unit No. 3 American Legion Auxiliary.
She was born April 11, 1928 on a farm in Grundy County, IA to Wilhelm and Gladys Bausman Harms.
A 1946 graduate of Owasa High School, Mary Lu worked for 37 years at Western Union, retiring in 1984.
She was past president and a member of O.B. Nelson Unit #3 American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are her sister-in-law, Sandra Harms of Eldora; two nieces, Jeanette (Earl) Slinker of Grundy Center and Lori (David) Welden of Marshalltown; two nephews, Robert Harms and Michael Harms both of Eldora; five great-nieces and nephews, Ronnie and Jared Slinker, Ronald Lee Harms, Cole and Abbey Welden; three great-great-nieces and a nephew, Chloe, Aynsley and Wyatt Slinker; a best friend, Beverly Davison of Ottumwa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant sisters, a brother, Ronald Harms.
