Mrs. James Wiford

Carrie Wiford was born at Linner, Norway, June 19th, 1874, and was married to John Johnson in 1888. In the year 1902 the family emigrated to the United States and settled at Thor, Iowa, later moving to Havelock, this state.

It was at Havelock that she was afterwards married to James Wiford, and moving to Grundy Center, she has been a resident of this place since 1907.

Mrs. Wiford was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church while a resident of Norway, but she united with the Baptist church when she came to Grundy Center. She has been a most faithful worker in the church and has lived a consistent christian life as all who knew her can well testify.

Mrs. Wiford was taken suddenly ill while on a visit to her aunt at Laurens, Iowa, recently, and was obliged to return home. She realized that the end was near and only awaited her Savior's call. She passed away peacefully at ten minutes past two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, November 21st, 1923, aged 49 years, 5 months and 2 days.

Funeral services were held at the home and later from the First Baptist church of this city on Friday, Nov., 23rd, Rev. David Alexander, pastor of that church, officiating.

She leaves to mourn her passing, besides the husband, James Wiford, five children: Alfred Johnson, Mrs. Louise (Johnson) Claassen of this city, and Rose, Sophie and LeEtta Wiford, at home. Also four brothers and one sister in this country and one sister in Norway.

Those from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig Johnson (a brother), and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gilbranson, the latter an aunt, of Laurens, Iowa.
