Aged Whitten Lady Dies

Mrs. Lee Kauffman passed away at her home in Whitten Tuesday, July 17, at the age of seventy-four years. The funeral will be held at the M.E. Church in Whitten at 2:00 on Friday afternoon, July 20.

Mrs. Lee Kauffman Passes Away

Kathrine Kauffman, daughter of Jacob and Elizabeth Forney, was born in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania, September 23, 1848. In 1856 she came with her parents to Jackson county, Iowa. She was married to Levi Kauffman at Maquoketa, Iowa, Nov. 10, 1869, and settled in Grundy county in 1871 where she lived on the same farm until her death July 17, 1923.

To this union were born six children, five of whom with the husband survive her: Owen M., of Campbell, Minn.; Ira D., of State Center, Iowa; Mabel Olmstead and Ralph E., of Whitten, and Edna Meyers, Plainfield, Ia. The youngest son, Wayne, died at the U.S. Naval Training Camp at Detroit, Mich., Oct. 3, 1918.

One sister and five brothers also survive: Mrs. M. E. Kauffman, R. B. and S. H. Forney, of Livingston, Montana, A. H. Forney, of Portland, Ore., and J. J. Forney of Toledo, Iowa.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Soule assisted by Rev. Curless Friday, July 20, at two o'clock at the Methodist church of which Mrs. Kauffman has been an active member for many years. Burial was at the Benson cemetery.

The relatives who were in attendance at the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Owen Kauffman, of Campbell, Min.; Mr. Elias Meyers and family, of Nashua, Iowa; Dr. Ira Kauffman and family, State Center, Iowa; Mr. J. J. Forney, of Toledo, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Becker and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Forrest, of Waterloo, Dr. Frank Kauffman and family, of Lake City, Iowa; Dr. Kauffman and wife, of Union, Iowa; Mr. I. J. Yetley and daughter, of Gladbrook, Iowa.
