Obituary of Mrs. Ann Mary Tschirgi
In the early hours of Saturday, June 9th, 1923, the spirit of Mrs. Ann Mary Tschirgi passed into that endless sleep for which thru the last days of her long life, she so earnestly desired.
Mary Wellschleger was born in the country of Switzerland, on the 7th day of September, 1835. With her parents she came to America and settled at St. Louis, Mo., and finally making this place her home.
She was married on April 9th, 1863, to Frank Tschirgi. To them was born a little child whom they were not permitted to keep long in their home. So the parents satisfied their loving instincts by adopting other children in its place.
The husband has died long since and she is survived by her son, Henry, of Grundy Center, and by her grandson, Harvey Tschirgi. She was affectionately known as Grandma Tschirgi, and was loved by all those who knew her. She was a good mother, and thru her long life of over eighty-seven years, was very active in all home duties.
On January 28th, 1906, Mrs. Tschirgi became a member of the First Presbyterian church of Grundy Center on profession of her faith in Jesus Christ. She loved to read her German Bible and recall the old church hymns. Her vitality of both mind and body was remarkable until the last year of her life. She will be remembered as one of the pioneer mothers whose life had its share of hardships and sorrows who in faith laid aside peacefully the life that now is, to enter a peaceful eternity with God.
The funeral services were held at the home of her son in Grundy Center, Tuesday, June 12th, 1923, in charge of Rev. Earl William Benbow, pastor of the Presbyterian church of this city and the body laid to rest in the cemetery of this place.
