Martin Henze Dies Suddenly At Farm From Heart Attack

Martin Henze, who had resided all of his life in Grundy county, died very suddenly at the Engelkes farm near Fern at 11 o'clock Thursday forenoon, where he had been helping. He was stricken in the yard at the farm and death was almost immediate. He was 70 years old.

The body was brought to the Engelkes funeral home in Grundy Center where funeral arrangements were made. Services were shortly after noon on Saturday at the funeral home and later at the Salem Lutheran church, two miles north of Fern. He had been a member of that church for many years. The service was conducted by the Salem church pastor, Rev. Alfred Schumm. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.

Came From Large Family
Martin Henze came from a family of seven sons and two daughters. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ferd. Henze, early residents of Grundy county. The family established a farm home a mile south of Fern, and some member of the family has lived there continually. The family of nine children grew up in the home on the Henze home farm.

Martin Henze was a likable man who had nothing but good to say of other people. All who knew him were his friends. He was born Dec. 18, 1894. He was a veteran of World War I and was in the military service from July 19, 1918 until January 6, 1919.

Martin Henze and Susie Swygman were married Dec. 30, 1925. They resided on the farm until eleven years ago when they moved to Grundy Center and that remained their home continually.

Surviving are the wife and three daughters. The daughters are Lydia who is at home, Mrs. Harold Aswegan, Parkersburg, and Mrs. Reinhard Kalkwarf, of Holland. There are six grandchildren, five brothers and one sister. The surviving brothers are August, John, Christ, Grundy Center; Fred and William, Holland. Mrs. Henry Haren from Manchester, Iowa, is the surviving sister. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
