Woman 102 Dies, County's Second Oldest Resident
Mrs. Mary Ahrenholz died Tuesday forenoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Cornelius, who lives north of Stout in Beaver township. She had reached the age of 102 on August 24th of last year. She was exceeded in age only in Grundy county by Mrs. Minnie Haren of Grundy Center, who was 108 on her last birthday and who is believed to be the oldest person living in Iowa.
Mrs. Ahrenholz had not been sick but she had been declining gradually during late months and the end came to her long life very peaceably.
Funeral Service Saturday
The body was taken to the Engelkes Funeral Home in Parkersburg where a short service will be held at one o'clock on Saturday and at 1:30 at the Gospel Hall in Stout. Burial will be in the Salem church cemetery.Was Born in Germany
Mrs. Ahrenholz was born in Germany, August 24, 1861, and she grew up there and married there. She and her husband and family came to America and to Beaver township, Grundy county, in 1901 where they resided on a farm. Her husband died in 1934. Following the death of her husband she made her home with her children for certain periods of time. During the past three years her home was with her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Cornelius and family in Beaver township.Leaves 92 Descendants
Mrs. Ahrenholz is survived by 92 descendants: 5 children, 20 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Her children are Henry Ahrenholz, Grundy Center; Oscar, Waterloo; (Anna) Mrs. Cornelius; Mrs. Carrie Smith, Cedar Falls; Andrew, Shell Rock.She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Mrs. Fritz Henze, Grundy Center; two children died in infancy. Three brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
