C. Johnson Found Dead On His Floor
Christ Johnson was found dead on the floor of his home in Grundy Center last Saturday, November 21st. His body was found by his grandson Charles Freese who had gone to his grandfather's home to tell him that he had been a winner in the turkey drawing in Grundy Center. A sudden heart attack accounted for his death. He was 83 years old.
The body was taken to the Ferree funeral home where funeral arrangements were made. Services were held Tuesday afternoon at the funeral home and later at Bethany Presbyterian church with Rev. A. J. Straatmeyer officiating. Burial was in the Grundy Center cemetery.
Mr. Johnson was born in Germany. He came to this country while he was a young man. He and Grace Pabst were married on March 4, 1908. The wife died May 10, 1956. Following their marriage the couple farmed in the Dike and Grundy Center areas. He also did some road construction work for the county. The couple moved to Grundy Center in 1937.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. C. E. Freese, Dike, Mrs. Ed Hansen, Dike, and Mrs. Lewis Butler, Grundy Center. Also surviving are two step-daughters, Mrs. Augusta Hasbrouck and Mrs. Leona Krahulec, Milwaukee; two step-sons, Conrad Henze, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, and Christ Henze, Shell Rock. There are 10 surviving grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son and one daughter.
