J. Taylor Nielsen Obituary

Funeral services were held at the Fredsville Lutheran Church last Friday, Oct. 23 for John Taylor Nielsen. Burial was in the Fredsville cemetery. Rev. C. A. Stub, Cedar Falls, was in charge of the services.

Mr. Nielsen passed away at Independence last Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 20.

He was born in a log cabin at Independence on Sept. 29, 1882, the son of Jens Peter and Marie Nielsen. On January 24, 1906 he was married to Carrie Marie Petersen.

He was assessor of Fairfield township of Grundy county for 17 years and a farmer in Grundy county until 1952 when he retired and moved to Dike.

Survivors include his wife, two sons, Elmer and Virgil of Cedar Falls; 4 daughters, Mrs. Hazel Schmidt, Mrs. Elvin (Mildred) Sloth, Mrs. Lynn (Iva) Engel, all of Dike and Mrs. Leonard (Carol) Posekany of Reinbeck; one sister, Mrs. James Boysen of Cedar Falls and one brother, Carl of Dike.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, 2 sisters and a daughter, Harriet.
