Ben J. Engelkes was born in Beaver township, Grundy county, September 21, 1897. He was the son of John and Agenette Engelkes. He lived on the farm on which he was born all of his life. He passed away September 29, 1964, after a lingering illness. He was in the Grundy County Memorial hospital on several occasions and finally was taken to Rochester.
He was married to Gesina Swygman on April 7, 1927, at the Pleasant Valley Reformed parsonage. They farmed for many years in Beaver township. He was baptized in the Pleasant Valley Reformed church of which he was a faithful member since 1938, until his death.
He is survived by his wife, one brother, O. J. Engelkes; four sisters, Mrs. Harry Klosterboer, of Grundy Center; Mrs. Harm Vanderholt, Wellsburg; Mrs. Jake Rindels, New Hartford; Mrs. Sievert VanHauen, of Parkersburg; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
