Dr. Kahler, 57 Yrs. Doctor In Reinbeck Dies In Hospital

Dr. H. V. Kahler, who had practiced medicine in Reinbeck for 57 years died last Friday at Allen Memorial in Waterloo where he had been a patient about a week. He was 86 years old. He had practiced medicine for a longer time in Grundy county than any other. He continued his practice to within a few weeks before his death.

The body was taken to the French funeral home where funeral arrangements were made. Services were held Monday afternoon at the United Church of Christ in Reinbeck. Burial was in the Reinbeck cemetery. Burial was with Masonic rites.

Dr. Kahler was born the son of Marcus Kahler and Lena Kuehnle in 1878 at Traer.

He received his high school education at Traer and attended Dennison Normal School in 1897, University of Iowa; Northwestern Medical College, Evanston, and became a doctor in 1905.

Dr. Kahler was married to Ina H. Jones on Sept. 18, 1907, at Lawrenceville, Ill. The couple lived all of their married life in Reinbeck.

Surviving are his wife, three sons, Charles F., Grinnell; John H., Des Moines, and James E., Waterloo.

Aside from the practice of medicine in his community, Dr. Kahler took an active interest in civic affairs of his town. He was one of the leading organizers of the first golf club in the vicinity of Reinbeck.

He was a member of the Congregational Church, Masonic and Shrine organizations, the Oak Leaf Country Club, the Reinbeck Chamber of Commerce, the Iowa Medical Society and the Academy of General Practitioners.
