Mrs. John Kiewiet Dies Sunday a.m.

Mrs. John Kiewiet died at five o'clock Sunday morning at the custodial home in Grundy Center, where she had been a resident for three years. Death was due to old age and complications. She was 82. The body was taken to the Engelkes funeral home where arrangements were made.

Services were held Wednesday afternoon at Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center. The services were conducted by Rev. A. J. Straatmeyer. Burial was in the Colfax Center church cemetery.

Mrs. Kiewiet was born in The Netherlands January 29, 1882. Her maiden name was Trientje Romeling. In 1900 the Romeling family came to America and to Grundy county. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Siebo Romeling.

December 11, 1912, John Kiewiet and Trientje Romeling were married by Rev. J. E. Drake at the Colfax Presbyterian church. They resided on a Colfax township farm until 1942, after which they moved to Grundy Center. Mr. Kiewiet died a number of years ago. Mrs. Kiewiet continued to live alone in their home in Grundy Center. She resided a few years in the Long Nursing Home in Cedar Falls until she came to the nursing home in Grundy Center three years ago.

Surviving are the son, Jake, Grundy Center, daughter, Mrs. George Boelman, Ackley; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, two brothers and three sisters. She was the last remaining member of her family.
