George Arends Buried Here
Funeral services for George Arends, 86, who died June 9 at Covina, Calif., were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Eastfriesland Presbyterian church. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Arends died at a hospital in Covina, where he had been a patient following a fall in which he suffered a fractured hip.
He was born south of Ackley June 1, 1867, and had farmed in this vicinity until 20 years ago when he went to California. Since then he and his wife returned to Ackley for the summer months to attend to farm interests and visit with relatives.
Mr. Arends was married twice. His first wife was Gertie Burma, who died about 55 years ago. He was married in October, 1901, to Dena Tegtmeyer, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Dick, of Uba City, Calif., by his first marriage; and another daughter, Mrs. Merle Smucker of Covina, Calif., by his second marriage. There are also several grandchildren.
Mrs. Arends and Mrs. Smucker arrived from California on Wednesday for the services.
