Martin Geiken Dies At Home in Ackley

Martin Geiken passed away at his home in Ackley early Thursday morning, Dec. 30, after a long lingering illness, at the age of 78 years, 6 months, 8 days.

Born in Germany to John and Katie (Heronomus) Geiken, he came to America with his parents at the age of 3. He grew up in the vicinity of Holland, Ia., and later moved to the Ackley area.

January 25, 1912, he was united in marriage to Anna Miller. To this union six children were born.

They farmed in that area until 1950, when they retired and moved to their present home in Ackley.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Anna; four daughters, Katie, Mrs. Carl Giesking, Grundy Center; Hilda, Mrs. Harry Eckhoff, Steamboat Rock; Jennie, Mrs. Chris Christians, Steamboat Rock; Marion, Mrs. Robert Funnell, Grundy Center; two sons, Jake of Aplington and Elwood of Ackley; 21 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Tena, and one brother, Deddo, both of Iowa Falls, and many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
