Helen Bunger, 89, of Iowa Falls, died on Sunday, April 23, 2006, at the Hubbard Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 27, at the Faith Presbyterian Church, Ackley with burial in the East Friesland Cemetery. Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Carrie Bunger was born on March 31, 1917, at rural Sinclair. She was the daughter of Ludwig and Wubke (Vink) Beenken. She graduated from 8th grade at the Beaver No. 2 country school, rural Stout. Helen was united in marriage to Coert H. Bunger on March 10, 1937, at her parents home in Holland. The Bungers were a busy family shelling corn, combining and threshing oats. Helen helped in the field, with milking, and taking care of chickens and hogs. She also had a large garden and flowers. Helen enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crocheting. They were faithful members of East Friesland Presbyterian Church and Sunday school, later joining Faith Presbyterian Church.

Helen is survived by a daughter, JoAnn (John) VanHove of Urbandale; a granddaughter, Teresa Groff and great-grandchildren, McKenzie Jay Marsh and Coert Lamar Groff all of Marshalltown; a sister, Louise (Henry) Eckhoff of Ackley; and a brother, Rient (Dorothy) Beenken of Grundy Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Coert; a daughter, Thelma; half-brothers, Lutjen Beenken, Conrad Beenken, George Beenken and half-sisters, Annie Beenken Bruns, Katie Beenken Uhlenhopp; her sister, Mary Anfinson; and brother Ludwig Beenken.
