Farm Hand Found Dead In Bed Tuesday Morning
Joseph Motto, who has made his home with the Harm Lutterman family for many years, was found dead in bed early Tuesday morning. He was around the house and assisted with the chores as usual Monday evening and from all appearances was in good health.
He lived in a little one-room house on the Lutterman farm which was built for him a number of years ago. It was the habit of the family to call him when they got up in the morning and he always responded to the first call. Tuesday morning when he didn't answer their call or get up one of the boys went to his room and found him dead. A doctor was called and after an examination said that he died from heart failure while asleep and that he had been dead about two hours.
Mr. Motto had made his home with the Lutterman family for nearly 26 years, dating from the time that they lived on a farm in South Dakota. At that time Mr. Motto was making his home with a sister who was a neighbor to the Luttermans and when this sister and her family left Dakota he started to work for Mr. and Mrs. Lutterman and has been with the family ever since.
The only living relatives known of is one sister and her family and when last heard of three years ago they were living in California. One sister passed away eight or nine years ago.
Short funeral services will be held at the Lutterman home Thursday afternoon at one o'clock followed by services in the Reformed church at Wellsburg in charge of Rev. Landsiedel. Burial will be made in the church cemetery.
